Budget (including currency): Being considered

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

So here's a question.

First, to establish something: I already have two PCs. Different room, different floor.

The intended use is in the living room, hooked up to a TV, to play games. BUT For this money, I could get a PS5, which by itself costs a third of the price and even if I re-buy the games I wanna play for PS5, I'd still be spending less than half the money compared to the PC, and I don't have to BUILD it either. So, why get the PC? Here's the build btw: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cYq8hk

Makes sense to get the PS5 in this instance, right?

Because, these two PCs are in a different room on a different floor, and they're fit for purpose. Main workstation/gaming system + dedicated streaming machine.
If I upgrade the streaming one for example, to use as the TV gaming PC, it'd need a new GPU cuz it only has a 1080Ti in it.
The GPU alone is more expensive than the PS5, and I'd lose my dedicated streaming machine...

What about your dedicated gaming one? Can you not just upgrade that one? And what are the specs on it?

This one does not need an upgrade.
3950X, 3090, 128gb of RAM, it's a bonkers PC.
But maybe you didn't quite get the issue.

This PC, and the streaming one, are in their own room.

What I'm trying to do is game on my TV that's down in the living room. Different room, different floor.

And I was trying to avoid having to re-buy games I already own, so I was thinking of streaming the games to the TV.

But there's no ideal solution.
Steam link only works with steam so Blizzard games (or other non-steam games) don't work.

Nvidia SHIELD would be a possibility but from what I'm reading, not ideal either.

So I'm between building a mini PC to place next to the TV, or getting a PS5.

The PS5 costs a THIRD of what the PC would cost, so even if I re-buy like 10 games, I'm still spending less money than I would if I were to build a third PC...

Oh ok then ye I would get the ps5 then. But you might have to use a controller most of the time if that's alright with you. But ye the ps5 is the best decision

At the end of the day if you go PS5 make sure it has the games you care about on it. I'd also assume in most cases you're not going to have cross saves, so you're not going to move between the two.

As a wildcard option - gaming laptop? If you don't have one already, I think you can still get a reasonably performing one for less than that desktop, plus you gain a mobile option should you go away.

Laptop is a good suggestion actually!
It'd allow me to keep my PC games I already have AND would make it a no-brainer playing on the TV, connecting it as if it was a monitor.
Still at least twice as expensive as the PS5, though, right. Especially a laptop with a decent GPU in it.
Hmmm.

Depends on your desired performance level. For example, I have a 3070 laptop bought two years ago. It's a bit weaker than a desktop 3070, but I find it generally fine for 1440p native rendering, and if the game supports it, use upscaling for more perf or even 4k. Used examples are going around £800+ in a quick look. If you want something new, that could cost more but nice having current gen and warranty. Also consider if it might also replace one of your existing desktops if you don't mind moving it around to where it is needed.

NICE. £732 is not bad at all!
But RX 6700 is not enough to do 4K on like, Cyberpunk or even Diablo IV, is it.
The TV is 4K and can do 120Hz.
If I do this, I'm not gonna 1440p on it.

I mean it'll do 4k 30. Cyberpunk doesnt run at 4k on a ps5 either it runs at 1440p and then upscaled with fsr. Something rhe 6700 will do too.

There are very few games native 4k 60fps on next gen consoles its all trickery because it looks good enough anyway.

Diablo yeah no sweat 4k 60.

4k 120fps can barely be done by a 4090 in most games good settings.

If you have some extra budget up the gpu. If you want TRUE 4k 60fps all games at least the 6950xt is right there for 600 pounds.
