Okay, forgive my ignorance, but here is what I am facing.

Desktop: 128GB SSD, 3TB SSD, 250GB HDD.

Thinkpad: 250GB HDD.

HP: 250GB HDD.

Knowing this, what I want to do is take the SSD that has windows 8.1 Pro on it and put it in my Thinkpad, which has Windows XP and PCBSD installed on it. the idea is to reinstall PCBSD on the SSD (note that it will not have windows on it in this case, thus negating any licensing issues).  To do so, and keep my desktop useful, I will have to move its OS to a different drive, I am thinking the 250GB HDD should be big enough, seeing as it is 2x the size of the SSD. The HP computer shall stay the same as it is, as it is not a problem.

So... Problem is want to put SSD in thinkpad, while keeping windows 8 on the desktop.

Solution: Image the drive to the HDD? If so, how do I do this? If it requires software, a FOSS, or Freeware version is much preferred (don't want to spend money to fix one problem one time that will likely never exist in the future).
