Sapphire RX 6900 XT Nitro+ recently, I noticed very high temps even during the night time when the Ambient temp is lower or around 18c.

I already checked the GPU for dust and all 3 fans are working properly, when I bought it, the temps were about 85C on Junction Temp at 1000RPM, and here even with 3000RPM, it's hitting 110c max temp.

My case has plenty of in-take/exhaust, I'm sure that's not the issue as temps before even during summer were sub 90c

While I was playing a game today PC just turned off and it was unexpected, could be due to high temps?

The GPU is out of warranty, I recently bought Arctic MX6 Paste, should I open up the card and repaste it, could it be that the thermal paste dried out?

Thank you all for the input!

@tiggar47

Ya you are probably going to have to repaste the card/ re-mount cooler. Obviously something happened and heat is no longer transferring from the core to the heatsink properly.

If you can touch the heatsink while it is under load, even towards the very ends of the card the heatsink should be quite warm to the point where you can't hold your finger on it for too long.

If its cold or even cool, its obviously not working. DO NOT touch heatpipes, those will burn you. Only touch the edge of a fin on the finstack

Definitely need to redo the paste. Let us know if that works.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

How is your case airflow? Is the card getting enough fresh air?
