Top left? Input device delay noticed. Never seen it before. I've just seen lag one and it's nowhere to be seen.

I guess whatever reads your inputs could be hanging up, taking too much of your resources in turns lagspiking your game as well?

Hello i recently got back into apex, and im getting this heartbeat red symbol in the corner after getting a huge lag spike from around 280 fps to 50. Im using a 3090ti and this issue is only in this game

Connecting to Apex Legends servers has been intermittently trash since around holiday 2022 for me over on the west coast. Sometimes routing the game's connection through Private Internet Access VPN helps, other times it doesn't. Some rounds are completely lag / packet loss free, while others experience spikes whilst playing. Nothing's changed on my end, traceroute's to the server IP addresses have more or less been the same, and all other games do not experience this problem, narrowing the issue to Apex servers or the BGP routing equipment in the datacenters they use.

Sorry this isn't much help; just sharing my experience.

you can use the in-game screenshot (you can bind a key to screen shot under settings->mouse/keyboard, and then grab the image from:

location varies by store platform (origin or steam): C:\Program Files\...\Apex\r2\screenshots

coz theres a lot of red symbols in this game.

in setting->video settings, try change nvidia reflex to enabled+ boost. if you have gsync enabled, this will also cap your framerate to just a few hz lower than what your monitor is capable of(which might be desirable here).

edit: I've looked through your profile. are you still on i9-7900x? generally if you arn't knowledgeble in diypc, using non-consumer parts such as this comes with many caveats. for one,  you have single core performance of a 7 years old 6700k, but the thermal output of a nuclear station, and may need to disable cores down to a single ring bus to get best gaming performance, or populate all 4 dimm channels to reduce impact of higher RAM latency(or use only 2 dim channels, I don't know! the point is it needs work& research). but that requires research and awareness of it all in the first place.

I think GPU's got nothing to do with this, its most likely your (normal) software usage (any normal amount of background tasks) being too much for the old and complex CPU platform. Also windows 11 sucks ass, I'm hardcore when it comes to optimise Apex input latency and consistency the best I can, and my main rig is on win10 build 2004. (and would use win8.1 if AMD didn't suck ****)

TLDR; I'm guessing you have software usage of a normal person, windows 11 + background tasks are too much for your old CPU without putting in work to optimise it for gaming. (if you are still on 7900x)

to kirashi: yea over here in australia i think the issue is with my ISP, because if i use my own VPN (free oracle VPS), i get no lag spike locally (sydney server), and my international latency reduces significantly.

But for other places, potentially yea. Apex is suckass sometimes, server lag, entire server slow motion midgame, audio (the lack thereof), any many other frustration. fighting someone on high ping is like trying to predict the future.

and yea for BR mode, apex's hardware equipments are working at-capacity for sure. you can compare by hopping into vpn (to secure internation latency), go to another server for 2 games, 1 at peak hour for that timezone, in BR mode, another at quiet hours in that time zone, in mixtape mode. the ping difference is HUGE.

to OP: you can turn on setting-> gameplay -> performance display, and you can observe if you have fps or network latency spikes.

Would you suggest I upgrade my cpu at some point, I thought my cpu would still be good for gaming along with my new gpu, this issue is only happening with this game.  Every other game seems fine. It’s strange to me I get a huge lag spike mostly when getting into a fight and then the ucmd red icon appears I feel I can’t be my pc if it only happens on this game. Would you suggest a cpu upgrade I thought for the price I paid 4 years ago it would still be good for gaming thanks for the advice

Along with this it’s fps drop not latency ping issues

I think yes, you don't use the stength of that processor - computation/massively threaded workloads, and suffer the shortcomings - single thread performance, thermals and technical issues.

based on your budget, I think anything from AMD R5 5500 to intel i5-13600k. You will have to change your motherboard to one that works with the new CPU you choose.

how much you want to spend? and what country are u in?

So because I don’t use the stengh of my cpu for what I do, I’m worse off, I would like to upgrade to a new cpu at some point I would say I have a budget of around 500. I have a expensive MOB that I regret buying 4 years ago I hope to be able to sell them both to cut the cost of a new one maybe 😂

you can still sell them, they are probably better than what you can find easily on aliexpress, for people who is looking to buy for computation and extensive I/O.

so are you in US?

with 500USD you can comfortably get a upper middle range CPU+Mobo+even new ddr5 RAM, given thats your budget. example: 13600kf+b760m pg riptide + 32g ddr5+cpu cooler, 520usd

you can also save up for the moment, and get older CPU+Mobo and use your existing memory.  example: ryzen 5 5600, cheapest b550, <250usd

theres so much good options in the US, all depends on what you want. all these options should be more reliable gamer too.
