Hey Peeps,

I've been looking to build a no compromises SFF build for a long time now, but have had a hard time finding a case that can fit a non-FE 4090.

Well, Optimum Tech just posted a build with basically the specs that I want in a SFF case.

The only things I would upgrade are as follows:

GPU: I would go for a 4090 instead of the 4080, but the 4080 he uses in the video is actually bigger then the 4090 I'm planning on buying, so I think it'll be fine.

SSD: I would go for a higher performing 2TB SSD

PSU: This is the one is the one I'm most conflicted about. He uses a 750W PSU, which I know is fine even for a 4090, but I would like a bit more breathing room. I'm looking ate the V SFX Gold 850 ATX 3.0 Fully Modular SFX Power Supply | Cooler Master or V SFX Platinum 1100 ATX 3.0 Full Modular SFX Power Supply Unit | Cooler Master. With the 850W I would save a little money and be sure that it would fit in the case no problems. The 1100W is more about futureproofing but I don't know if the protruding connectors would cause me any trouble in the build, also a lot more expensive.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

There are a few things that atx has on SFX PSUs  One of the things that few think about is the fan.  It’s bigger.  Plus you’re not doing an fe, so the impingement of the gpu fan is not an issue.  If it will fit an atx I’d say do it.

This isn’t just an SFF, it’s an air cooled SFF which is harder.  Big components make big heat and that heat needs to go OUT of the case.  I might consider doing the motherboard so the gpu is on the bottom. The grillwork will be better at exhausting the gpu air that way.  That gpu for instance is fine for intake, but what about exaust?  They just have to be thought of more carefully. An 1100w PSU seems unnecessary. I’ve heard of 1000w PSUs when you’ve got some 900k you want to overclock AND put a x090 gpu in it.  I suspect an 850 is already more than needed if you’re not doing a 900k. It’s just a really hot chip. The 7800x3d isn’t much cooler I guess.  I’ve never really understood that chip myself.  Sure it’s “the fastest” but the extra speed is nearly useless for gaming.  Especially for 120fps.  With air cooling your cpu overclock is going to be limited anyway.   A regular 7800 makes more sense to me.  You just won’t be hitting those nosebleed overclocks anyway.
The case apparently fits 336mm length, but you’ve got width and height to look at as well.  It’s just real tight.

The whole futureproofing the PSU doesn’t really make sense anyway.  PSUs by definition are limited lifetime parts.  Remember also every watt that gets used is heat that has to be vented.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
