As you've no doubt noticed, pretty much all PCIe adapters include WiFi. I have used the USB "nano" adapters in the past and encountered range less than ~4m generally speaking. Would it not be best to select a USB adapter that includes at least an antenna?

Yes probably but since you are going through a wall (which might be insulated if your country's a cold one) I would actually get the pcie adapter as it will probably be much more reliable and helpful than a usb adapter

Hi, first post here so sorry if this is the wrong place to post this:
I am looking for a BT4+ adapter for my desktop, in order to achieve BT connectivity in my living room as well as adjacent bedroom. The living room has a single plaster wall between it & the bedroom.

Historically I have used the ubiquitous nano adapters with very poor range for single-room connectivity, but doubt this will reach the adjacent room with enough reliability for the application (bluetooth gamepads).

The options seem to be between USB adapters with integrated antennae, for approx. $25AUD, and a PCIE WiFi/BT adapter with external antennae for approx. $110 (ASUS PCE-AX58BT).

My question is thus: is the latter overkill for the application? I do not need WiFi as I am running wired gigabit for the desktop.

Thanks to anyone who can offer insight on this.

is the application just audio? If so then probably, but I didn't see the application stated in the post

Bonus info: this is to replace the Xbox wireless adapter & Xbox One+ controllers, for which I mounted the official wireless adapter just outside the bedroom and with which I encountered constant connectivity problems. It is from this experience that I am apprehensive about the range capabilities of cheaper BT adapters.

I have a Gulikit Kingkong 2 Pro on the way in the mail to replace my XB1ES1 because of this issue.

i would probably get this pcie card if you really want to (with bluetooth 5.0) Tenda AX3000 PCIe WiFi 6 Card – Bluetooth 5.0 – Dual Band Wireless Card with 2 Detachable Antennas – Gigabit Network Card – PCI Express WiFi Card for Desktop/PC Gaming – Supports Windows 10(E30) : Amazon.com.au: Electronics

Or this usb adapter CSL - Bluetooth 5.0 USB Adapter Nano - BT V5.0 Stick Dongle - for PC Laptop - Bluetooth Receiver and Transmitter for Desktop Laptop Printer Headset Speaker - Compatible with Windows 8.1 10 11 : Amazon.com.au: Computers

But the cutout might be more prominent on the usb adapter but its your decision. If you don't need the wifi (which you don't) that usb i linked should be good enough

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The only reason I mentioned the Asus PCIe adapter was its glowing recommendation in this forum post:

Thanks again. I think based on your replies it is probably best to spend the extra $ and go with the ASUS adapter given the positive review on this forum & the conditions of use.
