Eyefinity/Surround misconception

You can play in eyefinity/surround on old or lower end cards.

 

Okays so using three 1080p monitors to game at 5760x1080 resolution is more taxing on your hardware than gaming on a single monitor.

But I think the hardware required to push 3 monitors or even 4k is way over exaggerated. I hear of people who say that one 7970 isn't enough and its just not true.

My single 7970 handles all the games on full settings just fine, and in fact, my old 5850 did too.

 

Here are some benchmarks I did from Bioshock Infinate with two 1GB 5850's Xfired and a Single 1GB 5850.

 

 

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t @ stock clock

SSD: OCZ 60GB 

RAM: GSkill 8GB 1600Mhz

 

I considder 30 FPS playable, and conclude from this information that Bioshock Infinite is playable at 5760x1080 resolution on a single 5850 with High settings. 

 

You don't need a but load of powerful expensive hardware to go beyond 1080p, and we do have the graphics power available today to run games on 4k resolutions.

30FPS is not playable to me. I'd rather have a single monitor and use the cash saved from the 2 unrequired monitors on a better GPU

Even the difference between 120 and 60FPS is significant, I'll never go back

After experiencing 120Hz monitors I can never go back to 60hz monitors. 30 FPS would unbearable for me unfortunately :/

Hm but I guess the majority of people with budget or old graphics cards probably would expect to settle for around 30-40 fps.

Depending on the game, 30FPS can be playable but games like Tomb Raider requires higher FPS to be playable.

It is definitely playable, but for people like me i just like my games on Ultra/Maxed at >45FPS :P

Well, for those making a blanket statement that 30fps is unplayable, it simply isn't true for all games. Yes, IF I focus my cards on a single 1200P monitor, I can max out everything and still net >60fps easy. I'd recently tried Metro 2033 @5760x1200, Very High Specs, DoF + 4xMSAA, framerate was about 30fps and higher.......it certainly was playable. I recall having a great time gaming at this res on my 2x HD5870 at launch, I was able to max out a good number of games......of course, certain very graphically demanding games like Crysis, Warhead and Metro 2033 cannot be maxed out, until now.
