I have an ASUS RTX 3060 Ti. I normally play light games such as Roblox or Minecraft. But I’m starting to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is very GPU intensive at 1080p. If “the new high will become the new medium” is true, when is a good time to upgrade? My GPU can’t handle Ultra on MSFS, so it’s at high. High is still great, but even then it lags sometimes. My CPU is a 5900X for context.

Some people say I got a good 5-8 years left, but at the rate this PC market is rocketing in a need for performance and best quality, what do you think?

how are you doing today

Generally you should upgrade if there is something you want to do, and your PC is not capable of that anymore. I.e, you want to play a game but it simply doesn't run stable on your PC or in such a degraded state, that you aren't having fun with it anymore.

If you are trying to bet on getting a deal now, you are taking a gamble. Historically it was almost always beneficial to wait as long as possible with your upgrade (unless you got a 1080 ti).

So rather just upgrading for the upgrades sake, you should think about what you actually need. On the other hand, if you have the spare money, and tinkering on your PC brings you joy, all the power to you! It's your money.

I would say this setup will last you until you can't do the things you want the way you used to.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

It entirely depends on the games you wanna play and the way you wanna play them. Although it's REALLY weird to have a 5900X mated to a 3060, this config may last you for good 4-5 years if you only play light or single player games. But if you decide to play multiplayer or some heavy games, you might wanna consider upgrading NOW, because the high tier AMD GPUs, especially in the US are probably the best deal one we would see for quite some time. I mean 6950XT under $600 - it's the first time ever i wanted to live in the US.
