PC restarting without any errors

Go to solution Solved by how to PC,

I apologize for the necropost, but if anyone has come across a similar issue:

I rolledback my NVIDIA drivers to the latest February update I could find. And I have yet to crash.

I posted about an issue I had previous about my PC not being able to run specific programs/games. Long story short, I reinstalled my OS and it fixed the issue. Now long after that, I've come across a new issue. My PC begins to restart on it's own and Event Viewer doesn't really tell me much. The one piece of information I got from it was: "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xffffdd8f81df5010, 0xfffff806aa823ac0, 0xffffffffc000009a, 0x0000000000000004). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 42261701-3a98-4514-bf73-f4191ad62872." Only two things really come to mind for me: a dusty PC that needs cleaning or a failing PSU. Before I shell out on a new PSU, is there anyway to check if anything else could be wrong?

That's the 'fun' of PC troubleshooting i guess. It could be a lot of things.

PSU is a good culprit obviously , but even unstable RAM config can cause random restarts without any BSOD.

Is everything up to date ? Drivers,Bios,Firmwares?

Edit: According to le internetz  0x00000116 is related to GPU. So it might be drivers misbehaving , failing GPU , or maybe failing PSU not providing sufficient power to GPU.

GPU : RTX 3070 Gaming X TRIO | CPU : Ryzen 5 7600 \ COOLER : Deepcool AK620 | MOBO : ASUS TUF Gaming B650 Plus | RAM : Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 16GBx2 6200 MHz \ Storage : Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 1TB \ PSU : Corsair TX750M | CASE : Be Quite! Pure Base 500DX Black

According to 'Samsung Magician' my firmware is updated. I heard that if I can reliably update my BIOS I should do it, but I'm afraid to mess something up. I will do it last, but still trying to figure out how to know if my PSU is failing or my GPU is failing.

Also an overclock or undervolt might be the cause for that, if your CPU/RAM/GPU doesn't get enough voltage it restarts, a faulty PSU Cable/Extension can also be the cause.

I don't think I ever overclocked anything, I kind of just built it and listened to other people tell me what to do.. I may need to buy a new PSU cable if anything. I attempted to upgrade my BIOS and it seemed to be working for like two-three days. But I just got it right now (the restart for no reason).

Also, make sure the 980 pro (especially) firmware is up to date as they have failing hard with a certain version of it...

I used Samsung Magician to check if the firmware is up-to-date and it seems like everything is normal.

According to Event Viewer, my PC rebooted from a bugcheck again.

Reinstalled my GPU drivers and it appears that it didn't help. I'm starting to suspect that my PC is overheating and to prevent it from.. overheating, it shuts itself off.

Unlikely actually. But you can download HWinfo to check your system temps among other things.

Is there any other troubleshooting I should do to try to figure out what could be the problem?

Start with that. If we can rule out overheating that will be one less thing to worry about.

Well before I go out buying new fans, going to just clean out my PC and see if that helps at all. Will update as soon as possible (I might be too lazy, but at this point, gotta figure out if it just needs a little cleaning).

You said it rebooted from a bug check. What error codes do you get?

'The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xffff810727f13050, 0xfffff808b0953ac0, 0xffffffffc000009a, 0x0000000000000004). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 860600cd-6309-4026-8e57-a06e0ac40cf8.'
That is the exact thing I got from Event Viewer, other than that, no error codes. I know my PC is going to restart, because one of my monitor would go out. I would assume that my PC is trying to make my second monitor my primary monitor after that, but then it would turn the second one off too and my entire PC just restarts itself.

I read online that if my 12V and 5V don't stay close to those values, the  it's a sign that my PSU is having issues. But I don't really know how to read HWiNFO and I should be looking at my BIOS for them, but I have no idea where to look.

Your video driver is crashing.

Download the latest video driver for your system. Then download DDU. Restart in safe mode and use DDU to wipe out existing display drivers. Restart into windows normally and install latest driver.

I'm not 100% sure that I did it correctly, but I downloaded DDU. Restarted in safe mode and use DDU to "clean and restart" my display drivers. I'm assuming that was the option I was supposed to go with, but I'm downloading the latest driver through NVIDIA and hoping for the best.

if you post that memory.dmp some might look into it.

the rig you have are cpu throttled. a friend have the same cpu and it was cooking up to 100degree celsius and he has a 3090 too..  he got my old delided 8700k and life was easier.

i would sugest you delid it or get someone to do it for you.. on those it's around 20degree temp drop if done correctly.

use hwinfo64 to check temps.

Here is the zipped up MEMORY.DMP.

I had someone look into this and they keep coming back to NVIDIA drivers being stupid. I had this issue since March of this year and rolledback as far as I could before the first restart (or the first time I believe it restarted). I am currently using version 531.18 which was released on 02/28/2023. I'm hoping this could fix the issue. I can't really check the temps before the crash, unless there are logs of it previously.

I will looking into this 'delided' thing. I never heard of it before. I will have HWiNFO running on my second monitor to keep an eye on CPU temp.
