Budget (including currency): 600 euro

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly Gaming: Paradox Titles (EU4, HOI4 etc), Total War Titles (Rome 2, Shogun 2 etc.), Perfect Heist 2, Bannerlord, Cyber Punk

Monitors: 1x144Hz and 1x60Hz both being at 1920x1080

Peripherals: Not needed

Other details:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: GEFORCE GTX 1660 Zotac(Twin Fan Variant......6GB)
  • Motherboard: B450 AORUS ELITE
  • RAM: (2 different RAM)
    • Viper Patriot (DDR4…Dual Channel….16GB….3733MHz)
    • Vengeance LPX (Corsair…DDR4….3200MHz…16GB)

  • Storage:
    • SX8200 Pro (XPG….512GB)…….NVME (Windows 10)

    • 870 EVO (Samsung….2TB)….SSD

  • Power Supply: TX750M (750WATT…..80Gold…..Corsair)
  • Case: Level 20 MT ARGB (Thermaltake)
  • Build: December 2019

My experience level isn't that high, I do know some stuff because I have built my PC (and repaired my old ready bought one) and watch some tech YT, but don't know what I should actually buy, because I have like several hundred options to choose from when looking for parts.

Should I even upgrade? should I maybe wait till a new generation comes out or the prices go down?

Whilst I can play most of the games I have listed with no problems whatsoever Bannerlord and Cyber Punk do run a bit worse than I would like (both unmodded right now, which I intend to change in the future) and who knows what the future holds.

Personally I think the biggest bottleneck is my GPU right now, so I guess that would be my priority. Furthermore I am looking into upgrading my storage with another NVME with 4TB. Maybe better cooling would also be possible, I did want to change my fans with Noctua (I think they were called, the quiet ones that look kind ugly) fans, since mine are a bit too loud for my personal liking and maybe do water cooling (no custom loop), but don't know if it will fit into the budget. Would be nice if the fans did fit into the budget though.

As a side note, I don't care about looks and would rather not have any RGB.

So thx for your help and if you have questions ask and I will try to answer them.

Get a new GPU and some of those ugly Noctua fans, that's my recommendation within that 600 Euro limit.  I hope the Noctua colour grows on you, in my opinion they look absolutely fantastic! I love the industrial look and the non common color.  Be Quiet makes great black fans if thats more to your liking.

Do u have a recommendation for a GPU?

Completely forgot about Be Quiet. Will need to look which is more silent and more in my price range.

id say fk the fans put all the money into the GPU

also look into Arctic P12 fans, they are extremely good for the price.

also check this video:

Noctua makes amazing fans, but they aren't the only ones making amazing fans anymore.

Depending on where u are the price changes, so other fans might actually be better.

I would say they are equally silent and Be Quiet might be slightly less expensive.
GPU I would say 3070ti or AMD 6800.

He is obviously not satisfied with the noise his current fans are making so telling him to fk the fans is a bit strange.

will be looking into the graphics cards.

I think the other member meant it more as a form of expression as in "go balls deep into graphic card" so its ok

Noctua fans are crazy expensive.

That case doesn't breath too well. and comes with 4 fans. replacing all 4 is costly

and he probably needs to add a few more if he really want to quiet it down a significant ammount.

skip that and he might be able get the next tier up GPU.

I checked on Mindfactory.de and those cards were the best within that price range ( a bit lower so you had a bit to spend on some fans too ) 🙂  Both will be a huge upgrade over your current 1660

moving the included fans from the front to the side will improve cooling and noise.

it will be ugly not having fans in front. but it's free cooling.

Buy the best graphics card u can, and buy fans with what ever change you have left seems like a resonable compromise.

add them to the side and top depending on how many you get with the money you have left

yup, I think that's what I'm gonna do.

could u explain why moving the fans from front to side would be better?

don't care about looks, I cant even see inside my PC because the glass is against the wall

Yea, both will be at the 500 euro range, I might just steal...I meant borrow a couple of fans from my little brother and fill out the side as the other one suggested and then look into buying the fans at a later date

that case has a solid front glass right?

there's not enough room on the on the side and bottom of the glass for optimal airflow.

the fan mounts on the side has no such restrictions and is filtered.

so moving those 3 front fans, two to the side and one on top will be much better.

if you end up getting some fans, install them in the side and top, 1 side 0 top. 1 side 1 top. 2 side 1top, 2 side 2 top like that.
then you can turn down the front fan speed to reduce noise, they have so little room to breath, they might as well be just decoration.

Edit:

Almost forgot.

If u truely don't care about the looks.

just take off the front glass. it improves cooling even more and way easier than moving the fans around.

damn those cheap, when looking at noctua fans in comparison 😂

Yep. Also, consider tweaking around the fan curve and ditch the tempered front panel off. Itll look ugly but itll cut us the cost of fans and those 600 euros can go all the way in for a GPU, something like 6900XT fits in there with a neck overbudget.

Be really carefull with the Arctic P12s. I got reccommended them as well, and i ended pulling them out again because they may hum at certain speeds. Mine did for sure.

It's a documented issue, although i don't know if they have fixed it since 2021.

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

i think i will stick with the 3070ti for now, since for the 6900XT i will need a new power supply(850W min.), but i will definetly be removing the glass infront, since i dont rly care about looks

Yeah but your 750W PSU should be fine for it considering its a pretty well built Corsair unit that should be able to handle the transient spike. If you really wanna play it very conservatively then you really only have RTX 4070 in which case id go for 6800XT as you can drive this safely on 750W, atleast until lower tier of 7000 series Radeon is out.

i think i will be going with the 3070ti since the wattage fits right into my power supply and i have a bit of leeway in wattage, the price is also good and i can buy 2 or 3 fans  with the remaining money. but thx for the suggestion

I’d also go AMD for your use case as you would get much more sufficient v-ram and price to performance, but do what you want to.

oh ok, i thought that amd cards are often a hit or miss(at least in the beginning) and that the gtx card has raytracing that will be more important in the future and some other features that amd doesnt have. amd does have more vram ofc
