Hello there fellow LTT members,

I require some advice on the following :

My girlfriends Dad asked if it was possible to automatically start a image back-up whenever he plugs his external hard-drive into his computer.

Example : Start up computer --> plug in external hard drive -> computer detects it --> starts automatically back-upping.

His computer is running Windows 7 home premium.

anyone know how to do this, has a better option or know if this is even possible?

Thank you in advance.

Ginshu.

I use true image but I'm not sure if it backs up automatically though? I use scheduled backups, but It will only backup if the destination location is detected. So if you set it to backup daily (early), then it would backup whenever the drive is attached. Basically it tries to backup at the set time, but if it can't (drive not connected) then it will do it as soon as it can.

You guys are crazy. You know you guys are self-destructive. There's a funny farm somewhere and it's got your names written all over it. But I'm gettin' outta here.

So if I am correct, If I put the schedule on "backup at an event" (in this case computer startup) it will try to back-up onto the external HDD and if its not there it will wait for it to connect and then automatically start?

Yes. That's what happens on mine. If my NAS is not mounted, it will wait until it is, then it will start the backup.
