Hey LTT,

I was wondering what the best red coolant is. Is distilled water better? The only issue I have with that is that my reservoir wouldn't be red.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

Well I guess you're aware that red pretty much stains the inside of your radiator and blocks.

Anyway, I personally was debating the same thing as you and decided to just go with distilled water, but used red LEDs in the correct placement to give my reservoir the same effect you're looking for. I like this option a lot and I'm able to just change LED colors if I want to change my color scheme in a new build. I'm also using primochill red translucent tubing though, so having colored coolant wouldn't effect that much.

If you're one of those guys that sleep near your computer and hate LEDs at night, maybe colored coolant is the way to go, but I would only go with red if my color scheme depended on it.

I personally don't care if the colour stains the blocks or tubing, I'm not one to change colours of my coolant.

Like said above, mayhems is good, the EK premixed stuff has a nice colour too.

You are better off buying nice bright red coolant, and just sticking to distilled water and an anti-bacterial.

The staining isn't as much of an issue as a build up of gunk in the blocks, slowing down the flow of the water.

All that being said, if you are the kind of person that is willing to take down their build every 6 months to give it a thorough clean, then go for a dye bomb/coloured coolant :D

Exactly, I enjoy that kind of thing so giving it a teardown and clean every 6-9 months sounds like a fun Saturday :D

Its the not the coloring that causes gunk build up....its the plasticizing of the tubing....
