So I bought a used pc the other day I tried it at the seller and everything worked. When I got home I plugged my ram in and my hdd. When I turned it on i heard a pop and smoke in the middle of the motherboard/Graphics card. I went to a pc shop to get I fixed, first I thought the psu was broken but it wasn't. They told me that they couldn't go any further because the gpu and cpu is fully water cooled. What do you guys think that broke?

bad situation unfortunately, without someone who knows what they are doing looking at it, no can give you an answer based on the information availble

possibly transporting it created a leak and thus water where it shouldn't be = electricity/water = shorted.

though could just be that the gpu has blown a component on the pcb, I have seen plenty of cards pop and smoke, I have never seen a mobo do that yet, though I am sure its also a thing...my guess is card has fried.

if theres a pop and smoke then something has gone beyond safely using it/completely dead, and yes if the card was not fitted properly then potentially a short could happen causing damage.

I would remove the card first and give it a smell, and test the rest of the pc see if it turns on

The issue is the custom watercooling as both card and cpu are on a loop, if you are not versed in watercooling then watch some videos etc on it so you can at least drain the system, you can just remove the power cables to the card and then the card from the pcie slot if theres enough give in the tubing (hard or soft?) to test the rest of the system if you can support the card so that the tubing does not have to much pressure on it causing a leak.

if the system turns on etc then potentially indicates the card has had it..if not then problem elsewhere

the damage is already done to some degree, so as long as you remove the card as suggested and the pc starts and no pops or smoke then at least you know the pc is ok, personnally I would do that and then investigate the card, it would mean draining the loop or at least doing something so the card can be removed then open the card and look for any signs of damage on the pcb...
