Upgrading Prep

Do you have to reinstall windows or anything when upgrading motherboard and CPU? my motherboard comes in tomorrow and i want to be preped. I bought an extra 500g m.2 boot drive just in case. Im going from 3700x to 7900x and an rog strix b560e-e

It's generally considered that whenever you swap platform you do a clean Windows install, though with the exception of the Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs issues are pretty rare when just carrying forward an older Windows Install, at least since Windows 10 (IIRC Windows 7 had a couple issues when doing so, and XP and earlier had more, though I haven't personally tried moving Windows installs around too much with those old platforms so don't quote me on that). Make a Windows install disk just in case, but if you just move the boot drive over you're probably OK.

im on windows 11 so shouldnt be a problem ig. ik my brother had some problems so just trying to prep
