Budget (including currency): ca. 900-950€

Country: Germany - Current price @mindfactory is: 965€

PC is used for: Gaming - League of Legends, Apex Legends, WoW, Warzone 2 / MW2

Currently I am running 8700K, 16GB GSkill 3200Mhz, RTX 2070 and 600W Gold PSU. Monitor is 2k 144hz.

I am thinking of upgrading to 7800X3D, 32GB Kingston Fury EXPO 6000, MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK and BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 Pro and keeping my RTX 2070. I am not really sure if that is the way to go, should I upgrade my GPU and keep the rest and just overclock 8700K to 5Ghz, but the CPU is 5 years old, so that could also be a bad idea. I do not plan to upgrade anything else in the near future. Any advice is appreciated.

With the cost of the platform I really cannot find something that fits the budget. That is why I am really torn between the two options. I know that it´s basically sh*t to pair 7800x3d with 2070 and it is not really good to pair 8700k with lets say 4070Ti

so you have only 2 options?

Not really, but when I saw how good 7800X3D is I kinda bit too hard. This could be a sensible solution with me keeping the RAM I already have. 5800X3D is stil really good CPU and pairing it with RX 6750XT could make more sense that going all out on 7800X3D with a "bad" gpu. I am really all over the place with this

yeah you definitely want to balance CPU and GPU otherwise you will lose some performance,

though if you know the precise hardware requirements it's possible to cheap out on one side and add value towards the other, some games don't necessairly need that much CPU power like others

but ofc that's only some games, while you can game on a 2Core CPU on League of Legends, it will barely run Apex Legends for example even if you have the fastest GPU, games like Apex on Dual Core just won't run well, and not just fps wise but also lot of stutters

another thing when it comes to CPU power is that after some point, faster CPU on high resolution will get you barely any extra gaming performance, at least in all current games, (so sometimes going too much on CPU will yield 0 benefit because the slower CPU could already enable the max possible fps)

one thing you can consider is going 7600x, because the CPU is on par with 5800x3D performance in gaming but also has the AM5 socket, having room for an upgrade path if ever needed,

however you'd have to buy RAM since all AM5 CPUs and boards only do DDR5 RAM

in my country the 7600x is cheaper than 5800x3D so if it's possible to get the AM5 CPU without having to cheap out too much on RAM I'd go for it,

but the final decision comes to you ofc, 5800x3D is a solid CPU, 3200Mhz is kind of enough for it there's not much gain going faster, if you have a budget that you can't cross just stay in that budget and get the best bang for the buck

After much consideration I managed to grab 4070 Ti on sale (760€ - from 899€) and I am going to upgrade the rest next week. Would going for 7700X be a good option? In addition with 32GB Kingston Fury EXPO 6000, MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK (CPU cooler Dark Rock 4 Pro is already bought).
