Why are only 2 of my 3 GPU fans detected?

ZentralheizungPC

Hardware info only sees 2 GPU fans, But my rtx 3070 has 3. When I adjust the fan speeds manually in fan control, only 2 fans spin. But when I open a game, all 3 fans start spinning. What is going on?

What hwinfo sees:

What happens when i control fan speed manually: PXL_20230405_083551816.thumb.jpg.fa8946c59ab7f57630e5f8672e6f382c.jpg

All three fans spinning when starting a game: PXL_20230405_083756102_MP.thumb.jpg.1350d8e743171fe4e610496702bceceb.jpg

So why arent all 3 fans detected when they clearly work? Its annoying.

Normal, there's 3 fans but only 2 headers to get stats from, so 2 of them share same speed etc and report as one (usually the most left and right ones with the center one being second sensor)

But why cant i control then manually? If two of them share a header, they should just start spinning together.

That's weird, are you sure you've correctly "assigned" which fans were which in Fancontrol ?

I have only one dial for the GPU so i cant do much wrong here.

That's kinda tentative, but maybe what's happening is that the 0 fan speed feature on the card activates "on top" of Fancontrol settings and override them, stopping one fan as long as temp is low
