Enough Wattage For Current Specs? (Custom Watercooling Loop)

Ilumic

Hi everyone recently my PSU has been shutting off randomly under load, only happened twice and when it boots back up the PSU fan spins at 100% RPM.

I have a fully custom watercooled build and I did think at the time 850W was enough but im doubting it now since these random shut downs.

Its only happened twice in 3 months I will list below what I have tried to fix it

  • Cleaned the PSU
  • Checked load on breakers
  • Checked event viewer for anything power related
  • Used a PSU calculator which says I need 1000W
  • Checked USB ports for any issues

My specs are listed below

CPU: AMD 5900x
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB 3200Mhz
MOBO: MSI MPG Carbon Max X570S
GPU: RTX 3080Ti FE Overclocked
PSU: EVGA GQ 850W
Storage: 1TB 970 EVO, 1TB WD SN750x2, 500GB Crucial CT500, 4TB Seagate Barracuda
Case: Corsair 5000x iCUE

Water Cooling Setup
1x Corsair 120mm XR5 Radiator
1x Corsair 360mm XR7 54mm Radiator
1x EK-CoolStream PE 360mm Radiator
Thermaltake Pacific TF2 Temp/Flow Meter
GPU Block: Corsair Hydro X Series, XG7 RGB
CPU Block: Corsair Hydro X Series, XC5 RGB
Fittings: EK-Torque STC & Corsair Hydro X Series XF
Pump/Res: EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE 300 D5
Tubing: Corsair Hydro X Series XT Softline

I am also using an AMD 5900x the same ram and an MSI suprim 3080 and also custom water loop with dual D5 pumps and also the 850w. but corsair brand

No issues at all.

My only takeaway is that possibly your OC is causing a transient spike that forces a shutdown.

try removing the OC and undervolting the GPU as you will get better and more stable performance with higher framerates.

Why do you use an entry level PSU with ACRF platform in a high end rig?

What's the exact part number and version number of the RAM?

Is the motherboard BIOS fully up to date?

And this RAM is on the support list of the motherboard? I doubt because I've hardly seen a E3200C16 kit on the support list of any AM4 motherboard.

Ive had the ram nearly 2 years never had an issue, didnt realise there was a support list for DDR4 ram for specific AM4 Boards
