Budget (including currency): ~ €2500

Country: The Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Gaming and a bit of hobby-ing in Unreal engine

I am going to build a new PC in the next month. I am stuck on the CPU choice intel or AMD.

I am excluding all peripherals in the budget.

The rest of the build would look like this with the parts I picked

RAM 64 GB Kingston Fury Beast (2 din kit) @ 6.000 MT/s

Graphics Card MSI geForce RTX 4070 Ti Ventus 3x 12G OC

Power supply Seasonic Focus GX-850

SSD Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB

Case Have not decided yet, thinking about NZXT H7 Flow

CPU cooler Probably air cooled (Noctua NH-D15)

As far as I see the price would be about the same in my country with the AMD being about € 70,- cheaper.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900 X or Intel i-7 13700K

The AMD would be pared with a B650 Motherboard and the Intel with an Z790 (roughly the same pricepoint).

Are there any suggestions as to which CPU I should choose? Are there any comments on the other parts?

Hey, I think intel it the way to go if you are going to use a NVIDIA card, if you render a video you can use both the GPU and the CPU to make the render go faster, pretty cool.

The CPU cooler I picked actually works better then the Noctua coolers and it's a heck of a lot cheaper.

When you get these parts and put them together PLEASE be sure to update the Firmware for the Samsung M.2, right now they have a software flaw that makes them READ ONLY but a Firmware update fixes the problem.

The case I picked is actually quite unique as it actually shows you the temps of the CPU and GPU.

I included a 6 pack of fans to go into the case to maximize the airflow, trust me you can never have enough.

If you have any question I'm more than happy to help.

I suggest you choose the Ryzen 9 7900X because it has 12 more powerful cores. I have heard it's way better for gaming.

While the i7-13700K has 16 cores, it has 8 more powerful cores and 8 weaker cores. Intel calls them performance and efficient cores. I don't think the efficient cores will be utilized that much when your gaming or using Unreal Engine.

This is not bad at all, id vouch for it for 1080p. This would be my AMD alternative to it, with it even closer to the 5% overbudget. 20 more euro could be spent on 5 pack of Arctic P12 fans.

In his setup would it be wise to switch out the CPU-cooler for an AIO Liquid cooler? Or would the thermalright Phantom Spirit be enough to cool it?

Yes it should, I have heard of testing done with this brand and I hear really good things. They say is better than Noctua, I think the only brand to out do it was EK and most if the time EK is sold out as far as I can see more often than not.

I think to keep costs down you should stick to Air Cooling. Not only is it more often cheaper than an AIO or custom water cooling, some Air Coolers have been proven to out perform AIO's.
