I am thinking about replacing my current cpu (Ryzen 5 1600X) with either a Ryzen 5 5600X ($250) or Ryzen 7 5700X ($288) ($40 more). I am looking for a cpu with great gaming performance, as well with pcvr (whenever the quest 3 comes out). I currently have a gtx 1080ti, but I won't be upgrading that for a while.

I plan on doing some recording as well.

Will the Ryzen 7 5700X last longer?

Any thoughts on which cpu I should go with? Is the extra $40 worth it?

that's a beast even after such a long time

technically, but CPUs don't necessairly age much, a CPU that can handle a game at X amount of fps with certain GPU, will have about same amount of fps 4+ years later

is there a game/program that will utilise the extra 2 cores?

I'm not really focused on the 5800X, looking to get the best performance per price.

some games really get quite a boost out of the extra cache, some don't so it depends on what you do on that PC

Well my current cpu is on its last legs and takes forever to actually use the pc. I'm mainly going to use the pc for normal gaming, as well as some recording on the side (YouTube). I also heard in a Linus video that 8 cores would be better for vr?
