Hello! I recently came across some videos about bottlenecking on a pc which got me abit intrested. So I decided to investigate it abit more. And since i recently bought a 4070ti oc I wanted to check if my 12700k would bottleneck it. So first step was to check the recommended bottleneck calculators which said it should be  a 9% bottleneck in the resolution im playing. This made me abit curious since i've never seen my CPU at 100% usage outside of cinibench, so i decided to make a test myself with first the warhammer III benchmark in 2560x1440 resolution and everything on max setting, and if i understood the videos right there was no cpu bottleneck (see picture). Then I decided to run the assassin's creed origins benchmark, where the graphic card never hit 100% usage, but neither did the cpu (See picture). This makes me abit confused. Is it a bottleneck? or just that the game doesn't use the full capacity of the graphic card? I highlighted the maxvalues from Hwinfo64 since I didnt get the whole window when i used the Shift+win+S command to print screen it :). Also is there some other software i could use to iron out if my cpu is a bottleneck or not? And at what %bottleneck is it worth getting a Cpu upgrade?

Thank you for your time and im looking forward to your answer 🙂

Best regards!

Did you use only the PC-Builds calculator? You’d be better off shopping around and using a few different calculators and taking an average. A 12700K and 4080 on other calculators only results in a 3-3.9% bottleneck. So I would imagine that your 12700K and 4070 ti should get a better result.

Youre always gonna be GPU bounded on 1440p and especially on maxxed out settings. Its normal for the GPU to hardline going 99% on it.

Seriously, dont eat the "bottleneck" kool-aid, because overthinking it makes you think that your PC is not good enough or your planned upgrades are going to be detrimental even when it isnt.

If OP does, then this is my daily PSA that EVERY bottleneck calculators are bullshit. All of their methodology usually relies on passmark ranking and how far are they in between, or using other synthetic tests that doesnt represent even productivity workloads.

Yeah I used that one and a few more but all of them said my cpu was a bottleneck. Even though my own testing gave any sign of bottleneck. So I guess those calculators are just there to make people spend money on upgrades they don't need. Like the FPS is like 100-165 depending on the game i play. And I guess it caps at 165 due to gsync on and 165hz
