So I'm switching to Comcast. AT&T sucks for me it's recently been dropping etc you can read more here. But I was wondering if someone who has comcast or someone who may know if there router is N wireless. Since my AT&T router was only B/G and I would've had to go to best buy and pay like 125 for the N version of it. Also could some people shed some light on how good your service with comcast is. If anyone is wondering were only switching are Cable and Internet to them.

My service with comcast is ok. But my opinion of them as an actual company is a totally different topic. I get the bandwidth I want(most of the time) but they have a crappy datacap and if you try talking to someone with customer care....good luck, most of them don't know a lick about the company/internet and sometimes I just wonder if comcast just hires these people just because they have to.

And just to let you know, if their was another ISP in my area that offered 50mbit download I would switch to them in a heartbeat.

I have Comcast and have no complaints, service has been excellent in the past 3 yrs I've been with them.  I wouldn't buy the modem or router directly from Comcast though.  They charge too much for purchasing the devices and I definitely would not rent their devices.

The Motorola Surfboard modems are really good and reliable.  I have an sb6121 that I bought from Best Buy.   For a router I went with Asus n66u.

Comcast modem/routers (Wireless Gateway 1's) are all Wireless N 150 routers and broadcast 2.4GHz networks.  They all have different quirks but the Arris TG862G is probably the best one of the lot (the most recent firmware, 7.6.59S is supposed to fix the wifi auto channel bug, but didn't in my experience), as the Technicolor TC8305C has some issues with VPNs but with the added benefit of maybe 5-10 feet farther range.  The SMC SMCD3GNV is about the same as the Arris TG862G except that it's a pain to get the wifi back on if it ever turns itself off (best bet is to factory reset the thing and hope for the best).  There's another Arris, the TG852G, but it's about the same as it's big brother the TG862G.

Then there's the Wireless Gateway 2's.. and those are rare or require the X1 platform to obtain.  Only model I've ever seen in the wild is the Cisco DPC3939.  It's a solid dual band (2.4 and 5GHz) unit with even more confusing passwords, but I have begun noticing they've fixed that.  I do not believe the Cisco is a simultaneous dual band model, but I could be wrong as they're pretty rare.

Obtain your own modem at your own risk, some departments only work with Comcast leased equipment, regardless of what that internet repair agent you're talking to says.  You also need to lease a telephony modem from Comcast if you plan on using Comcast Digital Voice services, since retail units more than likely don't work for that (only one I know of that is a telephony modem that they support is an Arris TM722G, and I'm not sure about the CDV stuff).

Check mydeviceinfo.comcast.net for more information on which modems they currently support.

Hope this helps.
