PC SPEC

gigabyte b365m ds3h - Motherboard

2060 super

i5 9600k

2 8 sticks off ddr5 ram

No OC'S on the gpu or cpu

------------------------------------

I have had people tell me to overclock the 9600k an that im not using half its power but tbh ive overclocked gpus in the past but never cpu's I dont wanna mess something up or shorten the life span of the cpu just for a small amount of performance boost also I don't have a extreme cooling system in my pc I literally just have the basic intel cooler for my cpu..

I mostly just stream games such as val, rust, apex legends and some other small indie games here and there and I honestly don't have any issues with doing that my fps stays decently high and its playable an the stream doesn't look like a potato just wanting some ideas to make the pc run smoother under heavy loads without breaking the bank!

Get more ram and maybe upgrade the CPU cooler. Also you got DDR4. I would recommend 2x16gb 2666mhz. If you want a good cheap kit I can recommend G.skill Aegis.

Also no worries about overclocking as it's not supported by your motherboard. Even XMP isn't supported, so 2666mhz would be the highest speed for ram.

Height for the CPU cooler suggested below is 154mm, and check clearance before getting any CPU cooler.

thank u for clarifying my motherboard doesn't support xmp.. and sorry for the typo i didnt catch me putting ddr5 lol i got 2 8bg sticks of ddr4-ram 3200mhz corsair vengeance should i just get 2 more of those stick an slap them in or would it be better to look into possibly getting 2 16gb sticks instead... also I would like to upgrade my motherboard I just dont want to by something that the same or worse then the one I have right now I literally know nothing about motherboards and that explains why i got 3200mhz instead of 2666 when it came to ram..

You could get another of those kits and it'll work alright. In reality they run at stock speeds, unless you set this is bios. So 2133mhz. If you want to upgrade the motherboard, you should upgrade the CPU too imo.

What's the budget?

To be blunt, the CPU/motherbaord is what I'd change first. 6 cores without Hyperthreading on an old architecture probably causes you stutters when someone is shooting at you in APEX. A new CPU would solve that.

sorry for the late reply but honestly I would like to keep it under 400$ to 350$ for the MB an CPU or around that range... tbh I built this pc build during the pandemic as like a extreme budget sleeper build and well it didnt work as plan well kinda for 690$ it worked. the only thing ive upgraded is the gpu i had the 1650 super but honestly it just wasn't enough for what im trying to do so I went out got a 2060 super an now I feel like I should just finish upgrading everything els if its not extremely expensive.

Well, you don't even have to spend that much to see a noticeable improvement.

You can get a Ryzen 5 5600 ($150) or a Ryzen 7 5700X ($250) and pair it with a B550 motherboard from Asus, MSI or Gigabyte. Let's say $150 for the motherboard.

Or, you could go the Intel route, get an i5 12400f or 13400f or such and a B660 or B760 motherboard that accepts your DDR4. You don't have DDR5.

Or, you could increase your budget a bit and get a Ryzen 5 7600 paired with a B650 motherboard and 16GB of DDR5 RAM faster than 5400.

thank u actually very reasonable prices tbh... what would u recommend I go with for the best bang for the buck

Exactly what I mentioned. One of those options.

The Intel one would allow further updates to the CPU while 12th/13th generation is available, for example to an i7 12700k or i7 13700k.

The AMD one with Ryzen 7600 would allow upgrading to a stronger Ryzen 7000, and highly likely an 8000 or 9000 when those come out. AMD promised AM5 is going to be used for a few years for new CPU-s. But that needs DDR5 and thus is pricier.

AM4 Ryzen is a platform with no meaningful upgrades above the 5600 or 5700X; you could get a 5800X3D for slightly better gaming performance or a 5900x/5950x for better productivity and the same gaming.
