Budget (including currency): 400 USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk 2077, MW2, Fortnite, Rust, Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 5, a few other racing sims, etc. (Mostly used for gaming but I do plan on using blender(maybe) and Visual studio(definitely))

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Mostly on 1080p 240Hz and sometimes on 40K 60Hz

Current Parts list:

  • MOBO - Gigabyte B450M-DS3H WIFI
  • CPU - Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU - RX 6650 XT
  • MEM - Trident Z Neo 16GB 3600 CL18
  • PSU - Apevia Prestige 600W 80+ Gold

(I already have a 32GB kit of DDR5 6000)

Going to upgrade to AM5 but can't decide between the Ryzen 5 7600X and the Ryzen 7 7700/X. Both are on sale and seem to be good processors for what I need, although the 7600X is apparently slightly slower than the 7700X for $100 less. I could also wait a little longer and get the Ryzen 9 7900X but I feel as if that's a little overkill.

What should I pick?

If you are just gaming then go with the 7600x, if you plan on multitasking while gaming then go with the 7700x.

I have been building PCs for over 30 years so if you have any questions please ask. For Future Communication I use Discord for much Faster Response Times as I have it open 24/7. I am also available if you need help before, during, or after the Build Process on Discord through Text,Voice, or Video Chat. I can be with you while you build your new PC if you need me to be. Why not a 5800X3D? It still is up there alongside the new stuff if I remember correctly, can be had for about 300€ and would be a drop-in upgrade.

I would just drop in a 5800x3d. You are playing on 1080p, 3d cache makes a HUGE difference.
