will this over clock well?

Go to solution Solved by Hinjima,

as an overclocking enthusiast who has been overclocking CPU's since I got my i7-950 and all my GPU's.. I have no need to overclock my 7700x, with how modern CPU's boost its all about voltage and thermal control to help them boost further.  I gained a decent chunk of frames when I overclocked my 980ti and 2080 Super.. But the overclocking gains on my RTX 4080 was so small I just put it back to stock.  Modern GPU boost is impressive as well.
A tip if you want to try out overclocking and learn how BIOS works and voltage etc etc is to actually build an older system, like the i7-950 and get an old GTX 760 or something and play around with.

Budget (including currency): 1700

Country: usa

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: fusion 360, free cad, forza, (cpu) over clocking

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

all peripherals exempting a mouse ( I would prefer to have logitech peripherals 'cause then I can use the same bloatware for all of my unfortunate unicorn barf [rgb]).

also if anyone has any tips for an first time over clocker they would be greatly appreciated.

Overclocking CPUS is pretty much dead. They boost to what they boost to and not much else, the work now is in optimizing Voltage control and thermals.

There might be a bit of value in overclocking the 3060 Ti, but as mentioned, the CPU isn't going to gain much performance beyond stock. If you want to get into tweaking, I'd recommend investing time in undervolting instead - which should help your CPU to boost longer and more consistently while using less power. And honestly, you should probably go the undervolting route with the GPU too.

My 2060 Super can gain about 8% more performance with an overclock while using about 10% more power. But it also gains about 3% more performance with an undervolt while consuming 10% less power than stock. So I undervolt it, along with my 5900X, to get better efficiency while also improving performance.

GPU overclocking is almost totally pointless now and CPU overclocking is headed that way fast.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Not really. Turn on XMP and let the cooling do the rest of the talk. Boost algorithm has become so overwhelmingly aggressive that undervolting is new overclocking.
