So basically you want a new GPU?

I'd add another 8GB RAM, since you;re keeping your CPU, you have to keep the RAM.

Do you have SSD's or HDD's for boot/storage?  Go all SSD if you can.

For 1000 pounds, I'd sell your current machine for 150-200 and then use all that on a new MUCH more capable machine.

I think a new GPU might be somewhat limited by a i5 4690k. I'd recommend upgrading the CPU, Mobo and RAM as well as the GPU and PSU. Also what is your storage setup?

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

I suppose a new GPU would be the simplest fix, But what about bottle-necks? I have a 250GB SSD and 1TB HDD and the ram is 2*8GB

For what you want to use it for, I agree with the recommendation of the others to build a better computer.

The SSD is kinda small. What are its specs? The HDD is only really useful for data storage & backups.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Depending on your answer to this question, the following might be an option:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/KFp8Nc

AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor
MSI PRO B650-P WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard

Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR5-5600 CL40 Memory

XFX Speedster SWFT 309 Radeon RX 6700 10 GB Video Card

Thermaltake Smart BM2 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

(The 7600 comes with a stock cooler, but you'll probably want to buy an air cooler for it)

I've added new storage to my original list:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/VvCLQ6

It now costs £1001.87.

Only issue is you'd be using the stock cooler which will handle base clocks of the 7600 fine, but might limit its ability to boost. My suggestion would be buy this and upgrade the cooler a little down the road. However, if you want me to add a cooler and then bring it back below £1000, just let me know.

Thank you, this is a great system, I had not even considered switching to AMD, how is priced so well for such performance, is there a drawback?

The main drawbacks of the system I specced would be:
1) the lack of PCIe gen 5 support (but this might not be a problem for a while)

2) the stock cooler might limit performance a bit

3) the kingston NV2 has no dram cache (not an issue for most users but for people who regularly write alot of data they should be avoided, from your use case I think you'll be fine though)

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Trust but Verify! I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. A key drawback of that list is that the way ddr5 is optimized, it isn't too much better as a 2x8 when compared to a 16x1, ~60% and 50% performance decrease respectively when looking at a standard 16x2 kit of ddr5 ram.

@Ryuikko@will0hlep@DedayogIs there any reason not to use @mustard1's current case to save money?  I'm not sure but it looks like it's a bit of a hotbox, and he really doesn't need that tower of bays, but if it'll save him the money he needs for more storage, better RAM or whatever...?

Is the RX 6700 sufficient for the graphics work the OP will do?

so scrap the upgrading parts of it and just get a new system?

Exactly. Can you provide specs for the SSD? Is it SATA or M.2? PCIe and/or NVMe? Which gen PCIe? Maker and model?

Also, take a look at how much space the programs you need on your computer will be. My GUESS is that you'd need a 1 TB SSD like they suggested. The HDD can be used to store your unneeded data and make backups to.

Also, you didn't mention your current CPU cooler...?

A key drawback of that list is that the way ddr5 is optimized, it isn't too much better as a 2x8 when compared to a 16x1, ~60% and 50% performance decrease respectively when looking at a standard 16x2 kit of ddr5 ram.

The parts would fit fine, but it's rough without airflow and it seems like it's more oriented to be a Nas with its large amount of drive bays. I'd recommend getting a new one.

I was afraid of that. What do you think of the SSUPD cases compared to the Montech? (I know they're more expensive, just seeking your expert opinion.)

They target pretty different markets. The x3 mesh is a solid budget case(iirc the x3 mesh got a solid review from gamers nexus.) With another example being the focus 2 from fractal.the meshlicious is geared more towards the enthusiast itx builds, akin to the nr200p. They're both solid depending on what you want from your pc.

This list does lack an upgrade path, but it is also a good option

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Trust but Verify! I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need. Expand this signature for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components.

9) RTFM.
