Thoughts on Virtual Surround?

What are your thoughts on virtual surround sound? Many headphones now utilize software that simulates a 7.1 surround experience. Have you used headphones that use this feature? How was the effect? What is your favorite pair of virtual surround headphones or what is your favorite virtual surround headset? I just got thinking about this because of the announcement of Sennheiser's PC 350 Special Edition (stereo) and PC 363D (uses Dolby Pro Logic IIx to simulate a 7.1 channel surround configuration).

Surround sound headphones are a bit gimmicky which is why you don't normally see very many high end ones. If you get some nice high end non surround sound headphones you can actually have your soundcard emulate the surround sound far better than any headphones with it built in. If you don't have that kind of support and don't want to buy a sound card that does then yes go for it.
