High Gpu Usage Idle Issue

Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

Use MSI Afterburner to disable ULPS and reboot.

I have some problems with my video card ...

I own R9 280x in Crossfire from Asus

My problem is that at idle my temperture is about 50 degrees and usage is high / 100 % .. But only on my second GPU ... GPU 1 looks fine is 35 degrees idle and no usage in idle ..

What I 've tried ...

+ reset all settings in bios

+ Update drivers and tried to use the old drivers as 14.3 / 13.11

+ Run each GPU for itself in the computer .. everything fine there ..

+ install the new operating system .. still the same.

+ run malmwarebytes for any virus .. still the same .

+ swap each GPU .. still GPU 2 which is usually 100% usage on idle .

Just changed to 2560x1440 screen , do not know if it may have something to do with it ?

...

And have experienced GPU 2 does not use usage after a reboot .. but after a little use of the computer appears usually ..

I dont feel any trouble in gaming. think the card's performance is as it should be .. but 100% usage on idle is just strange to me . i dont run multi monitor setup ...

Here is my speccs .. hope someone kan help me out here : P

CPU : Intel Core I7 to 4.2Ghz

Mortherboard : Asus Hero Extreme z87

Ram : 8GB 1600 MHz kingston gray

Power supply : Evga Supernova 1000 G2

SSD: samsung Evo 250GB

GPU : 2 x R9 280x Asus

Btw My airflow is decent with 8x140 / 4/200 mm fans

Was thinking can this be Hardware acceleration?

If you've tried each card individually, and only one of them does this, then I would assume it is a problem with the card. Can't be sure though.

always gpu 2 does it.

i have swap each GPU sometimes now. and testet them single. no problems in single gpu.... i think the probelm is gpu not downclocking after use. or something like that... i am sure its not the graphics card it self. then i testet them both.

Hm, if it's always the second GPU, could it have something to do with the second PCI slot? It's unlikely, but it's worth a try. Put one card into the second slot instead of the first one if you haven't already, see what results you get.

Been running with 1 gpu all day long now. and all sems fine. idle 32 degrees and no usage... (in PCI slot 2)

guess i gonna use both cards again and keep an eye on exactly what brings the gpu usage up.

If you can, try running the two 280x's in a different computer. If that's the only computer that can run them, then it's safe to assume it's either software or another component (which is obvious at this point). I'm really not sure what's causing your problem, sorry.
