Took out GPU without pushing down plastic bit

It's simply a locking mechanism. It has nothing to do with performance at all.  You're fine.

I wanted to test an old GPU so I could sell to my friend. Everything went well and then I tried to take it put of the PCI-e slot without pushing down the little plastic bit at the end. It took some force but the gpu came out. The PCI-e slot was at an angle protruding out so I clicked it back in. The plastic thing was nowhere to be found. I don’t  have use for the slot but I do for the computer. I powered on my PC and it posted and booted into my grub bootloader. Will this cause a short in the future? Will I have to swap my mobo? Thanks in advance.

no, its a plastic peiece to hold the gpu in place, i was too hasty with gpu placement and accidentaly broke it off, u should be fine as long as you screw in whatever u put in there REALLY tight
