"No Bootable Device, Hit any key."

Go to solution Solved by Handernye,

Update: Seems like everything is working as it should now. I just tried to install Ubuntu from a DVD-disk, after that the PC recognized the HDD.

SUCCESS!!

So I was going to help a friend out with his new Acer Aspire V3-771G by uninstall Windows 8 and add Windows 7.

I had to remove the HDD and add it to my personal laptop to format it and add the OS.

When I tried to put the HDD into the Acer again, the message "No Bootable Device, Hit any key." shows up...

I know how to fix this particular problem, but I need to enter the BIOS to fix this. The problem is that I can't

enter the BIOS to change the boot-order. I've tried to press F2 on startup like a maniac but nothing works.

Anyone out there that has a workaround to access the BIOS when this problem happens?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I've tried to format the disk multiple times (also tried with several other drives), but the problems seems to be that the bios is locked.

This is what happens:

*Press the start button* ----- Acer logo ----- "No Bootable Device, Hit any key." ----- *Press a key* ----- "Select a boot device"

GARGH FRUSTRATED!

I am pressing the F2-button on the keyboard when the Acer logo is displayed, but nothing happens... Ergo, I can't

access the bios to change boot order so that the PC has something to boot to (don't know what it is set to boot to, possibly the DVD-drive).

Disconnect all SATA drives then boot from the HDD?

The PC has space to hold two drives, and I've tried to put the HDD in both of those... But nothing happens.

If I just found a way to access the BIOS I think I can get the PC booting right. But thats the problem, I can't access the BIOS...

Have you tried any further diagnose?

Boot from another HDD?

Boot from the HDD on another laptop/desktop?

Also you could try to boot from any bootable CD like the Windows 7 or Windows 8 disk.

Because his PC will not recognize that there are any drives in the PC, so I'm stuck in a infinite loop of powering on and off the PC

Does he have a CD/DVD drive? does the BIOS recognize that?

Do you want to know what grinds my gears?

UG sorry. I should read more... -_-. Why not try a bootable DVD with linux on it to see if that is the case?

I've tried to boot from several drives, but nothing works... The HDD is fine, tried to boot from it on another PC and it worked great. Have also tried to boot from a CD, also that was a failure.

So, to set things straight:

Your pc won't let you in the OS, neither does it let you in the BIOS.

When you try to put your HDD in a different pc it boots in the OS with no difficulties whatsoever.

Which basicly means that there is no error with the HDD itself, so, this brings us back to the pc.

You are using the Acer Aspire V3-771G, you can't get in the OS, neither in the BIOS, neither you can boot from a CD..

Edit: also, if the pc says: "No Bootable Device, Hit any key" your pc responds, which means there's no problem with your keyboard.

Update: I downloaded Ubuntu and burned the ISO-file to a DVD-disk... The PC recognizes the disk and is installing to the HDD at the moment.

Does this mean that there's a problem with the SATA plug (or something simular) for the primary HDD in the laptop?
