Is there anything that might restrict the airflow to/from the heatsink (like dust)? Also, what kind of thermal paste do you have?

I am using the pree appled thermal compound. I would have to check what is blocking the airflow when I get home

What are the actual temperatures and loads on the CPU?

when you say 'your motherboard' what was actually reporting the temperature? what does it consider overheating?
