Random CTD

frostynebula

First time making a tech related post so bear with me.

So I’ve built a new pc over the weekend. It started with random crashes to black screen with a restart. I stress tested with cinnebench and fur mark, thermals did fine and it didn’t crash at all during these tests. I mostly crashed while playing any video game. I believe I solved this by re-pasting my cpu and I haven’t had a crash like this since.

after the re-paste I now crash to desktop randomly in any video game, from league of legends to forza horizon 5.

troubleshooting steps:

used ddu to uninstall drivers

reinstalled new drivers for my gpu and intel chipset

Xmp enabled and disabled

Down clocking gpu

Edit: Someone at work recommended the forum, I don’t know my current bios but I will update this once I get home. I’ve tried just running the game and closing all my other applications and it still crashes

specs:

windows 11

i7 12700k

msi pro b660

Msi Ventus 4070ti

Silicon power 2x16 3200mhz ddr4

Lian li Galahad 240

Corsair rm850x

solidigm 1tb m.2

Seagate barracuda 2tb

bios version E7D59IMS.110

build date 03/04/22

If I’m missing info or anything I don’t mind editing, just please help

So to take out any extraneous information...

1. You built a new computer with all new parts?

2.  Installed Windows 11 from media USB?  Or did Windows 10 ,then upgrade?

3.  Did you install ALL drivers an firmware from motherboard site?

4.  How is your GPU connected (power)?

5.  At what point EXACTLY did the crashing start?  Before games installed?  After?  If after, during which game launcher?

6.  Is your BIOS set to default or did you tweak anything outside of XMP?

7.  Do you crash with just 1 stick of RAM installed?

8.  Do you crash using iGPU or only using the 4070Ti?

1. Everything is brand new

2. Windows 11 from usb

3. I’ve installed all drivers and firmware

4. Gpu has 2 8pins to power adapter without any extreme bends msi Ventus 4070ti (should’ve actually listed the card)

5. I installed all my games after benchmarking and got off for the night, so I can’t point to which installer the problem started with as I never launched them

6. I haven’t touched anything in the bios, not even fan curve

7. I have not tried 1 stick of ram but will update with result

8. I also have not tried integrated but will update with result

Anything odd hen crashing?  You know, sound still going while monitor goes black?  Does the machine ever crash and restart?  Or just always back to desktop?

Did you run a memtest at all?   I don't know Silicon Power RAM at all, I basically only use G. Skill.

so i did a memtest with both sticks installed using windows memory diagnostic and it found no problems. after reinstalling my ram and putting the side panel on, when i tried to boot i got vga debug led. opened the pannel and adjusted the power adapter cord and the pc booted no problem. maybe something to do with the power adapter?

Could be a loose wire in the cable, or it's not seating properly in the card.
