CPU Upgrade

I currently have an i9 10850k and I was looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 9 5900X. I was wondering if there are any motherboards that don't require a bios update; or if there is a motherboard for the Ryzen 9 5900X, that would make the bios update relatively easy.

Any motherboard with BIOS flashback would be easy to upgrade. However, the upgrade from a 10850K to a 5900X is quite minimal - only 5-10% in single core and 20-35% in multi-core. It's not gonna be worth it.

 

Why do you want to upgrade away from a 10850K? That's still a great CPU in 2023.

Good to know. People have told me to try AMD and I just have a spare Ryzen 9 5900X just chillen in my room, so I figured I might as well try it out.

If you already have the chip, you can drop $100-150 or so on a decent B550 board to get it up and running, but I think you'll be underwhelmed by the performance uplift compared to your current chip.
