Hello everyone!

My friend is thinking about purchasing a computer for gaming. We've been looking at pre built ones and also been trying to pick parts for one so that he could build it himself, which probably is the way to go as he has a budget of ~$1000. He does not need a new monitor, keyboard etc. just the computer.

As I've said, the computer will be for gaming. (Desktop) And probably building it himself as it's more money friendly :)

If anyone would like to help us out figuring out what to buy it would be great! (I'm pretty sure many of you guys are better than me at this so that's why I came here to ask for help, I don't want to disapoint my friend ^^)

We're from Sweden so we can't purchase parts from Amazon, newegg etc.

There are some swedish sites that we prefer to order from:

www.dustin.se

www.komplett.se

www.inet.se

www.webhallen.com

Thanks in advance and if you need any more info or anything just ask!

Edit: As Butterfish said, the price in swedish crowns is about 6500.

Do you require an OS? If so, do you have a preference?

Yes, he needs a OS and he would like windows 8.

So after some rough conversion, $1000 is roughly £600 here in the UK. So this is pretty much a guideline for what to look for at your retailers:

CPU:  AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  (£76.79 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler:  Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (£25.45 @ Scan.co.uk)
Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  (£97.73 @ Amazon UK)
Memory:  Kingston Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£53.00 @ Amazon UK)
Storage:  Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£52.79 @ Aria PC)
Video Card:  XFX Radeon R9 270X 2GB Double Dissipation Video Card  (£139.99 @ Aria PC)
Case:  Zalman Z5 ATX Mid Tower Case  (£33.58 @ Scan.co.uk)
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  (£78.30 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £593.39
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-05-05 13:39 BST+0100)

If you still need to cut back the costs, there are 3 ways in which you can do this.
1) We in the UK currently have the Kingston Hyper X Beast series of memory as the cheapest CAS 9 1600MHz 8GB memory kit available. This will be your first and immediate area to cut back on. As long as it has the specs I mentioned, you can get the cheapest set available.
2) Storage. I pretty much dropped a 2TB drive because there was a sale on. But a 1TB should do you fine. Also in the future, consider bumping it with an SSD.
3) The cooler. Lower temps mean more peace of mind. If you still need to cut back on the cost, use the stock cooler that comes with the FX-6300.

That's pretty much what I can offer as the most immediate of advice. I hope you can give us some feedback after finding out whether it goes above your budget or not.

I would consider looking at German sites (alternate, Hardvareversand) although I think Sweden is a relatively affordable place to buy components.
I purchased parts from Germany (I'm from Finland and our prices are higher than yours) and saved a pretty penny.

I checked the prices for the parts on www.dustin.se and it got up to about £680/$1150 which is quite a bit over his budget. It sucks that the prices for computer parts in Sweden is so high compared to for example the US. :/ Thanks for the list though.

Also, how would an computer with amd processor and graphics card compare to one with interl processor and nvidia graphics card? I know that the parts is more expensive on the second one but with this budget, which would win in gaming performance?

Mindfactory is a good one too.

I used hardvareversand. Good prices, cheap delivery.

I only just ordered, so I can't personally vouch for good delivery/etc., but their reputation is pretty decent

EDIT:

Support is also good. They reply to even more complicated emails in the same day (2 out of 2 times for me)

I just asked and delivery takes about 3-4 days from DE to FI so I'm happy with that (Y)

Get to start on my build this weekend.

With the prices in Sweden, AMD CPUs give a better bang for your buck with that budget.
