Hi I'm upgrading my ASUS G20 prebuilt that has a Intel 4790 in it and wanting to add a EVGA 3060 to it from a 1650. I know that the 3060 is PCIE Gen 4 but my mother board is only gen 3 will it still work as a plug in play or will i have to do some bios adjustments for the card or what not. Really new to the PC building zone and just wanna know for sure that it'll work before i buy it. Thanks for the help!!

As @Proud Cipher said above, PCIe is backward compatible.
The GPU will work with your motherboard (as long there isn't any defect)

You will lose some performance running it on Gen3, but the amount you lose is very very minimal.

Honestly I'm not even sure a 3060 will move enough data to be bottlenecked by the interface

Don't do something like that. That low end CPU (by todays standards it's weaker than an i3 10100) from 9 years ago can't even properly feed the GTX 1650 in modern games.

To properly use a stronger card, you need to upgrade your platform. If you can't, just get a GTX 1660 and consider it done.

Let's say a 3060 would perform like a 1650 with that CPU but you'd have way more framerate drops since the card would switch from the low power state to medium.

Oh, that's very true. I hadn't noticed what CPU they were using. Yeah, to run a 3000 series card you'll need something 9th gen or newer.
