Okay so my system is as follows

Windows 10 pro (64 bit)

MSI b550m mortar (non wifi sad)

32gb of Crucial Ballistics RAM

Ryzen 7 5800x

2070 Super

EVGA 750w psu

Trouble maker

ASUS PCE-AC56 AC1300 WiFi

Relevant storage to this

1x TG 1tb nvme SSD (Windows)

So my issue is with PCIe slot, the wifi card, and my gpu size.
The wifi card functions perfectly while in a 1x PCIe slot. My issue comes in to play because my gpu is a 3 slot gpu that uses one 16x and covers both of the 1x slots.

The remaining slot is a PCIe 16x slot which should work but it doesn’t.
When I plug in the adapter it shows up in device manager only when you expose hidden devices.  While in a 1x slot it both receives wifi and shows in device manager but while in the 16x it’s hidden and doesn’t work.
If anyone has some insight I would be grateful!

P.s. I was able to test that it works in a 1x slot because I have an old gpu that is only 2 wide rather than 3.

Don't a usb wifi dongle, some of them disconnect frequently and when you try to update the drivers it causes BSOD.

Got it, thank you! I’m just not sure what to do in this case. I get that the 4th PCIe slot is typically used for another gpu and for SLI but I don’t know why it wouldn’t work with a 1x wifi adapter that works just fine in a different slot.

Another solution is to buy an Wifi extender, plug it in and pair it with your router, then plug an ethernet cable in it from the extender to your pc, that way your Pci slots are free for your GPU, just make sure to buy an extender that has a fast ethernet speed, I made that mistake and am stuck with 100mbps wired so I use wifi. Or you can risk it and buy a usb wifi adapter, I'm not sure if the bsod after updating drivers happen with all of them, but you can google reviews about the product if such a thing did happen.

Or if your router is nearby why dont you just use Ethernet?
