Upgrading My PC

Budget (including currency): ~300$AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: A wider variety of modern games, however specifically I'd like to play Death Stranding and Phasmophobia without having to worry about performance

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current Setup Includes:

CPU: Ryzen 3 1300X

GPU: RX 570

RAM: 16GB 2400MHz

MB: A520M DS3H

No ssd, but searching for an NVMe currently

Monitor: 165Hz 1080p

I'd love to know where my priorities should lie with future upgrades, I've been thinking to upgrade to a 5000 series cpu to try and maximise my motherboard but I'm not sure if that should be my next step. Any advice on what components to upgrade or even what to upgrade to would be much appreciated but I will still be trying to do some research myself. Thx 🙂

Your minimum graphics card upgrade should either be a RTX 3050 8GB or RX 6600. Don't get the 6500XT, because it won't be that much of an improvement. Unfortunately either one is out of your current budget. I would focus on a boot NVME SSD and a new cpu. You can go with a Ryzen 5 5500 for a little cheaper, if you plan to do a new build in a year or 2.

Thanks for the advice! I had been looking at the 5600 and wasn't too sure if it was a substantial enough upgrade to warrant purchase but you've instilled confidence in my choice. As for gpu, would it be more cost effective to go with a 3000 series over a 2000?

id also recommend a 5500 (or 5600 if it doesnt cost too much more) but do make sure that your motherboard is able to support them.

The single biggest improvement would be getting an SSD, the best budget options are the WD SN570 or Kingston NV2, it looks like both cost about 95$AUD at the moment for the 1TB version.

As for a GPU your best option would probably be a 2000 series second hand. something like a 2060 super would have double the performance of a RX 570. 3000 series brand new generally isnt worth it at the moment unless you can find a really good deal, so if you want something brand new then the cheapest option worth buying is an rx 6600 (370$AUD) which is slower than a 2060 so getting a 2060 or 2060 super second hand would be a much better deal.

if you have enough money left over then getting 16GB of DDR4 3200 or 3600 would also give a big performance boost over DDR4 2400. Ryzen 5000 CPUs love fast RAM

If a GPU upgrade is too expensive then just upgrading the CPU and SSD (and possibly also RAM) is still worth it, you should still get a good performance boost and an rx570 is still good enough at 1080p for you to hold onto it for now

System: AMD R7 5700g (OC to 4.45GHz fixed clock) / Noctua NH-D15 / Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 / Gigabyte Waterforce WB RTX 2080 Ti / Crucial 4x8GB DDR4 (OC to 3800MHz Cl16) / 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus / Corsair 4000D airflow / Corsair TX650M / BenQ Mobius EX2510 24.5" 1080p 144Hz

Happy to help! As for the graphics card, it depends on the price. I've seen people still being able to get RTX 2060's for a decent price. If you're deciding between that and a RTX 3050, then I would recommend the RTX 2060. RTX 3060 would be better than both the other ones though.

I'd go with a used GPU for this, lower end GPUs new usually aren;t a great value.  The rx 6600xt and 5700xt are really cheap on ebay right now, and those will be about as fast as a 6600, but notably faster than a 3050, and for significantly less than either.  The 5700xt is gonna use a little more power and may be faster in some older titles, but the 6600xt will do better in newer titles and use a little less power.  Either will be fine with a 1st gen ryzen so long as only having 4 threads isn;t an issue.

[Mint] ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT Challenger ITX 8GB PCI Express 4.0 | eBay

Do not buy GPUs from international sellers.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.
