Windows upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Remarkable_Day,

Yes you can do this for sure. The safest way (to avoid accidentally formatting the wrong hard drive) would be to unplug the SATA cable to the media hdd, perform the format and windows install, then plug the cable back in, (including powering down the machine before unplugging / replugging HDD cables)

I want to upgrade the windows of an old computer, from win7 to win 10. There are two disks on it, one ssd with the OS (and other software) and a second hdd with all the media. If I format the ssd(with the operating system), will I be able to install windows 10 without losing the data from the hdd?

Yes.

Tip disconnect hdd during windows install so the bootloader is put on the ssd. If you leave hdd connected windows may put the bootloader onto your hdd. In the event your hdd dies or your remove it you will not be able to boot windows from your ssd!

Thank you both. One more question: so I just unplug the hhd, then I format the ssd (with the os) and then I plug in a usb with the windows 10 ISO file?
thanks
