hello, i recently got a 3070 founders addition on ebay for christmas, and it was working fine for a few days and now when im playing the same games i was a few days ago the fps randomly drops to 5fps ever minute or so, and this really shouldnt be happening because the games are arkham city and stardew valley, my temps seem fine and i dont know what it could be, my drivers are also up to date.

pc specs:
3070 fe
ryzen 7 5800x
32gb 3200mhz ram
750w 80+ bronze power supply
b450 auros elite v2
2tb samsung 970 evo  ssd

is there anything i can do to fix this or is the gpu bad? it could be bios maybe, i updated it last year around christmas when i upgraded my cpu, but im not sure anymore

I would start by clean uninstalling your GPU drivers and reinstalling.

First thing to do is download DIsplay Driver Uninstaller. Extract the files from this download, then boot your PC into safe mode. Once you're in the program, select GPU from the drop-down meanu on the right, then choose clean and restart. Let it do its thing, it will automatically restart your PC and bring you back into Windows normally.

From here, we'll need to download new drivers. Go to NVidia's website, download the drivers and reinstall them.

This was a very breif explanation, this is a decent video that explains the whole process of using Display Driver Uninstaller.

what gpu did you have before and did you do DDU before installing the new gpu?

4 sticks of the basic corsair vengeance ram and I had a 2070 super (probably not the smartest to upgrade so soon), and i did not uninstall my display drivers I don't think, but i did do a  manual driver update which cleared all previous drivers so maybe i did? not too familiar with it, but it has been suggested before so ill probably try installing ddu and trying that

yeah use DDU in safe mode, then reinstall your drivers,  also newest chipset drivers.

if the issue is still there, remove two of the ram sticks and see if that helps, i would also disable XMP for the time being.

thing is ryzen hates 4 sticks,  it worked for your previous build,  but now something obviously doesn't work, so thats one of the likely culprits,  besides not using DDU after installing a new GPU (its not mandatory obviously,  but highly recommended to to avoid any issues)

ps: also if you remove 2 sticks make sure the remaining are in dual channel,  refer to motherboard manual for that.

2, one 27 inch 240hz 1080p, and one 20 inch 720p cheap secondary monitor

It’s possible that the second (cheap one) monitor is causing your GPU to buffer out of sync. I’m not saying this is definitely the problem but you could try gaming with 2nd monitor unplugged, see if the problem goes away.
