I recently got a 3060 ti for Christmas and on low settings fortnite I’m getting less fps (almost half) than than my friends with similar builds. I have used ddu and am on the most recent drivers. I have set up my ram in bios and it is working at 3200. Is this simply a bottleneck with my 2700x or is there another issue.

What amount of RAM do you have ?

You should check CPU and GPU usage & remps with Afterburner to monitor what's happening when playing

I have 16 gb of ram

my cpu temps never go above 65 and my gpu has never hit 70

task manager says my gpu usage is 50-60 and cpu is 40-50 but idk how accurate that is

There are a lot of reasons why this could be the case. The 2700x is probably a bottleneck. Zen+ is sighnificantly slower than Zen 3 and even Zen 2 so if you are comparing to, for example, a build with a 5600x and a 3060ti that would explain the fps difference. there also could be someting obvious like are you sure your friends are playing at the same resolution you are playing at, and are you all playing with fortnite on exactly the same settings? thjere is a setting that changes from dx11 to dx12 that can make a huge difference if one of you has it on and the other has it off.

Its definately worth playing with some kind of harware monitoring like MSI afterburner or even just hwinfo to cheak that you arent running into any kind of temperature problems and also find out what the bottleneck in your system is.

System: AMD R7 5700g (OC to 4.45GHz fixed clock) / Noctua NH-D15 / Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 / Gigabyte Waterforce WB RTX 2080 Ti / Crucial 4x8GB DDR4 (OC to 3800MHz Cl16) / 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus / Corsair 4000D airflow / Corsair TX650M / BenQ Mobius EX2510 24.5" 1080p 144Hz

Ok then it's seemingly a CPU bottleneck, as your GPU is running at half ot what it could

I will look at afterburner later but we all play on the lowest possible settings

i mainly play on 1440p but when I try 1080p there is basically no difference which also leads me to belive it’s a bottleneck

That is what I assumed

I also plan on doing some game development and photo editing in the future so I was planning on getting a new cpu anyway I just wondered if there was another issue causing this

40-50% overall usually means a single threaded bottleneck is happening (which is expected with something like a 2700x), you could also try switching the CPU usage graph to logical processors in Task manager to see if 1 of the threads is at 100%.

Also just to make sure, your RAM is 2x 8GB sticks right and not 1x 16GB?

Using the latest Bios?

Latest chipset drivers downloaded from AMD directly?

Yes

Are you sure your RAM is actually running at 3200?

Please check with CPU-Z or some other tool.

Asking because with Zen+ its really hard to get 3200 stable, those usually go up to 2933 with 2 RAM sticks.

You might have turned on XMP, but the system might not be running it.

Also, the latest vBios for the card?

Ddr stands for double data rate, so 1600 would be 3200.

Test your RAM stability with Passmark memtest86

According to AMD your max. XMP speed for your CPU (stable) is 2933mhz.

Your OC of RAM to 3200mhz is a gain of 266mhz aka 6% resulting in only 0.6% better system performance trading stability for it.

Dial it down and it should be stable. As for comparing apples to oranges, don't.

Also, here's an idea, benchmark the CPU using Cinebench R23 and the system using 3DMark Firestrike (free, demoo n Steam).

The results will tell us if your CPU is performing as it should and if your system runs comparable to other similar systems.
