Hey all,

Quick question, I just ordered the HP Reverb G2 VR headset, and am planning to use it for MSFS2020 and DCS but am beginning to wonder if my system will be able to punch out the necessary frames for an enjoyable experience (minimal stuttering, decent frames, and visual quality).

PC specs:

Ryzen 7 5800x, Gigabyte 3060ti v2 oc, Mastercool ML240L aio, Asus Prime x570-p, Rosewill Zircon case, 32 gb (2x16) G.Skill Ripjaws 3600, 850w Corsair psu, Intel nvme 670p 500gb m.2 boot, Crucial BX500 1tb, WD Blue 1tb, Samsung 870 evo 1tb

Based on the specifications of your PC, it should be capable of running both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) at decent frame rates and with good visual quality. The Ryzen 7 5800X is a powerful processor and the Gigabyte GeForce 3060 Ti is a high-end graphics card, so you should be able to achieve good performance in these games.

That being said, the exact frame rate and visual quality you experience will depend on a number of factors, including the specific settings you use in the game and the complexity of the scenes being rendered. It's also worth noting that VR gaming can be more demanding on your system than traditional non-VR gaming, so you may need to lower your settings or adjust your expectations slightly in order to achieve smooth performance.

If you find that you are experiencing stuttering or low frame rates with the settings you are using, you may want to try optimizing your system or adjusting the settings in the game to improve performance. This could involve disabling unnecessary background processes, closing other applications that may be using system resources, or adjusting the in-game graphics settings to find a balance between visual quality and performance.

Yeah I'm already running the games 1440p with decent fps, but keep stuttering especially in MSFS. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it preforms on arrival.

While I haven't tested MSFS specifically, and I know it's a bit of a beast, I can say that my 5600 / 2070 Super have handled all VR I've thrown at it flawlessly, with everything looking great. Elite Dangerous, Half Life Alyx, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, Lone Echo, etc... all with high settings. I can't imagine you not being able to at least run Flight Sim acceptably.

DCS and MSFS are about the most demanding VR games to run well.

the 3060ti is about the minimum i'd recommend trying to run a G2 on but you will need to turn some settings down and do some other tweaks.

For reference a 5800x3d or 13900K and RTX4090  is just about able to squeeze out a solid 90 FPS in DCS on a G2 High settings.

I'm using a 5900X and 6800XT and usually get in the 50FPS range which is workable with re projection but still a bit laggy on the ground with lots of models around and i've had to turn some settings down.

DCS 2.8 update to weather and lighting systems really screwed up shadows in DCS so turn them off for now in VR or it will be a stuttery mess in VR until they patch that.

You can force DCS to use openXR instead of steamvr which will get you some extra performance as well as mods like vrperfkit to use FSR (Amd's dlss) to help as well.

I believe MSFS already supports native DLSS and DCS is aiming to support DLSS and multi-threading in 2023 but well see when it actually gets here.
