First Time Home Server Build

Hello everyone. Im building a home server for movies and such for my family. Was wondering what would be a good choice for cpu and motherboard. Im not looking to spend a lot on this considering its just a server. Open to all suggestions

I'd say, what have you already got kicking around?  my FreeNAS server was made out of mostly repurposed parts.  I would recommend a specific case, though:

You can fit 8 HDDs in it, and it takes a standard micro-atx board.

Also, you'd be amazed at how little it takes to run a media server.  Mine has a Pentium G4400 in it and I've only seen it utilize 45% max.

Another option, depending on how many drives you have, is to just use something like an SBC or NUC and an external enclosure. Really don't need much horsepower for this. But it also depends on how you're trying to set things up as to what's going to work best, e.g. next to and connected directly to TV or other side of the house in a closet with devices throughout the house connected via network.

So another thing is, is my friends and I play a lot of CS:GO and want a server for us to just play on like a 5v5. I would probably need a better CPU for that right? and more RAM?

That case is sick for a server!
