Alternatives to Netlimiter for blocking network activity on Windows

JamesdB

Hey everyone,

So Netlimiter recently released their version 5 as an update to version 4.

Users who bought a "Perpetual License" are now finding that when they update, their "2 year subscription" is over and it's not possible to revert back to version 4

I understand that some software companies have to move to subscription models to stay alive but pulling the rug from customers who chose to pay for because the price seemed reasonable for a perpetual license is kind of bad faith

The only option now is to start paying their subscription or start using something else, maybe something open source?

What do you guys use?

From a very quick glance at it, wouldn't Windows Firewall + PiHole (doesn't have to be on a Pi, I run it in a VM on my Proxmox box) accomplish the same goal?

I guess but in a more convoluted way. Like Netlimiter just installs on Windows and runs on start up. You can set the default rule to "Ask" so that any time a new process tries to access the web it detects it, you get a pop up and you can choose whether you want to allow it or block it. It's super user friendly
