PC wont start up

Go to solution Solved by Blackjack1336,

If the pc is booting with no issue other than the beeping it’s unlikely to be a ram issue. Dead or broken ram will make it impossible for the pc to boot. Maybe a motherboard or speaker issue.

Hi there, just did a thermal paste replacement for my little brother and got the cooler installed fine. to get it out, i took one of the RAM sticks out, and now it wont boot. i also had to remove the gpu for the extra space. booted it back with everything reassembled, and it did 3 beeps and didnt post at all - a RAM issue. reseated it a few times to no avail, until it didnt even start up. all i did was remove the RAM and graphics card a few times. tried a different power cable, but that didnt resolve it. it might be the power button, it may have come loose when moving the case around a bit, not sure.

Its an i5 10400 with a zotac 2060S mini with an Aldi Medion 550W PSU - its an Aldi prebuilt. any help would be sooo so great, as i’ll have to pay my brother back, and that’ll take years. thanks in advance guys

EDIT: I also attempted to boot with 1 stick of RAM, but that was when my issue with power started.

Did you put the ram stick in the proper place? If take one out and just use one to boot does it work? If the motherboard has 4 slots did you try the other slots? Can you use ram that you have in a different system to check if the ram is broken?

you could also try reseating the cpu if nothing works, and if you thing the power button is at fault try jumping the pins with a screwdriver.

For now maybe just reset the bios ? Unplug the computer and hold the power button for 60 or so seconds ~ see if it helps. And of course try reseating everything.

My dads suggested we just take it to a shop before something else breaks, he doesnt want to risk anything else getting messed up and cant be bothered with helping reseat the CPU considering it was a nightmare to clip the cheap cooler on. i might just reset the bios and make sure the power button is wired up.

edit: cant even jump the pins, there isnt the POWER SW cables and whatnot as its a prebuilt, its all wired up to one plug to the board with no way to know whats what..

i did a test with single channel booting, and it worked fine. one of the slots is damaged but luckily both RAM sticks are fine and working. i’ll just buy a single 16GB stick and use that instead of dual channel 8GB sticks. ive done a few tests and it’s working fine now. i’ve benched it and its getting around 7500 multi core on cinebench R23 so its doing fine. thanks for all your help!
