Unable to View Network Computers over VPN

ticei

I just upgraded to a TP-Link ax3000 wireless router in order to have it host an openVPN server for my network. It's been quite successful. I have the VPN connection working perfectly where I can log in to my printers and router via the VPN, I can even remote desktop into my network computers. However, I can only access the computers via their IP address. They do not show up in windows explorer.

I know that this has something to do with the fact that the router places the VPN on a separate subnet, but I'm not sure if it's an issue with Windows or the routing. (I already had to spend countless hours figuring out that Windows Defender doesn't like connections from other subnets) I already created a blanket policy to allow connections from the VPN's subnet, this enables me to access my smb shares by entering the host's IP address but if I try and use the host name I get nowhere.

all computers involved are running Windows 10 Pro.
