Question about optical cable/hdmi

Hi. So my Asus HD 7970 has 2 DVI and 4 Display ports but no HDMI. This is kind of annoying because i want to plug my PC into my TV. I have a Display port to HDMI adapter that i tried but it of course only carries display and not sound. Sound does work but it comes from my computer speakers. If i plugin a optical cable from my PC to my TV will sound then come from my TV?

Yup, if you use an optical cable. Make sure that the sound device output is set to the optical output. The sound will play through that device to the TV speakers.

 

I'm pretty sure a DVI to HDMI adapter will also carry audio and video.

Ok great thanks! Just trying to find out whether or not a DVI to HDMI adapter can carry audio now because the answer seems a bit unclear from the other forums i've looked at for answers.
