Budget (including currency): $2500

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: MSFS2020

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm a retired analyst programmer, with some long-ago hardware tech experience.  My timing's not good because the components are on the way, but I just found this site and I was hoping someone might be able to confirm (or deny) the wisdom of my choices.  Parts were purchased over Black Friday/Cyber Monday so I saved about $500 from current prices.

I'm not much of a gamer but would like a good system for MSFS2020.  Your thoughts are appreciated - thanks.

The components are at My Build .

A 3080 for $1350 ??? It should cost less than $800 now, or you can get a 6900XT for even less

And you could have used 13700K instead of 12700K

Now if everything is bought already...

AMD R9  7950X3D CPU/ Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E board/ 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z Neo 6000CL30 RAM ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 ARGB cooler/  2TB WD SN850 NVme + 2TB Crucial T500  NVme  + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD / Corsair RM850x PSU/ Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / ASUS ROG AZOTH keyboard/ Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

Agreed, $1350 for a 3080 would be too rich for me, I paid $845.  Regarding 13700K, I probably could have given that some more thought.  I thought I wanted to go with ddr4 instead of ddr5 because I thought I read of some stability issues, but they were probably earlier in the cycle.  I paid $299 for the 12700KF (my bad, I listed the 12700K).  Tempted by the AMD offerings but that was outside my comfort zone (old dog, new tricks)...

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it.

FYI 13th gen can run on DDR4 or DDR5 motherboards.

An i7-12700KF is close to an i5-13600KF, so you made out okay.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
