A.I. Generated Captcha?

So I've never posted here before but I came across something and I don't know where else to post about it. I was logging into Nvidia GeForce thing and I got a captcha, but it was weird. I swear that all these pictures are A.I. generated. Why? What's going on? I'm so confused

captcha's are used to train AI in image recognition, this is giving feedback on generated images; same concept. i havent seen this before or at least noticed it, but it isnt that big of a deal imo

I thought the point of captcha was to deter bots and A.I., but now they are being used by A.I. to confuse A.I.? I'm just confused at this point I get

Captchas are used to deter relatively simple bots. 
They're also used by companies to train their AI. A company would run their AI to classify a bunch of images. Then they'd create a captcha with 9 images, 1 or 2 are test images and people are asked to classify the images. This gives the AI feedback and helps it improve.

So at this point it's barely about security anymore? It's just free labor for A.I. training?

Remember the classic "squiggly typewritten word" ReCAPTCHA v1?

 

 

Those came from the scans on Google Books (and later, signage on Street View) for cleaning up words the OCR botched or couldn't decipher.
