Need a laptop

You’re right, I probably don’t need a Mac. I’ve just had so many issues with windows, having to reinstall it multiple times. I use iMovie, but would like to move swiftly into Final Cut Pro. I’m still trying to learn how to code, but want to code for iOS, and a Mac seems like the best option. My current laptop has 4gb RAM, which is abysmal. I would absolutely go for 16gb. Thanks for the tips.

The moment you said final cut the decision was made.

The air is the very much entry level but it's a good machine. 16gb ram and minimum 256gb recommend.

So I'm in a bit of a tricky situation. I need a new laptop, since my old Windows one is not working properly anymore. I am pretty deep into the Apple Ecosystem, and for what I would use a laptop for, I think I need macOS (video editing, coding, etc.). The only issue is the price. I most likely can't get a new Mac. I really want long software support. I don't know what Mac to get. The M1 Air is having lots of Black Friday deals right now. Should I get that?

You dont need a mac for any of what you stated.

What software are you using currently? To make sure its for one available and 2 compatible with the newest mac os.

You basically NEED a m1 mac now. I givr it 2 years before intel macs start getting majorly cut off.

If you do get a m1 macbook make sure you get enough storage (DO NOT GET A 120GB MODEL EVER) and that you get a 16gb ram model. 8gb simply will NOT cut it.
