Hey thanks for the suggestion. I do not really feel I need a CPU that strong though. I like the cooler, thanks for that. I also need a new PSU, cause mine is 10 years old and definately not very good anymore. I am thinking 850W.

Ok, but you have no reason not to get a 12 cores, still 1150EUR with a good PSU :

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor  ($341.48 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Deepcool AK620 68.99 CFM CPU Cooler  ($64.98 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI MEG B550 UNIFY-X ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($269.99 @ Amazon)

Hey! So I could use some help/suggestions on my build. Build a bunch in the past, am now 38 and have not done so for a fair amount of time.

Budget (including currency): 1500E minus GPU though it is not a hard budget

Country: Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Medium 1440p gaming and running several VMs at once (usually like 2 Windows OSs and a few Linux ones, for red teaming)

Other details: So it turns out that I have not upgraded my core computer for a long while. I still have a Core i5-4660 (Haswell). Ouch. I recently got a RTX2060 12GB, cause I needed a upgrade my older card was really dying. Now with black friday I am wanting to do the rest of the upgrade. So I am looking to replace the motherboard, memory, cpu, PSU, cooling, storage. I got a ASUS TUF Gaming VG27BQ monitor that I do not want to replace. I also do not need other periphenalia,. The case is optional, if I have to replace it no prob. I really feel rusty, I used to build computers a bunch and then live moved on and I hit older ages. Ouch! Finally I have no specific interest for AMD or intel. at the moment I am leaning AMD, because they seem to have the best deals atm. I would like to keep an upgrade path without replacing the motherboard.

atm I have the following in mind:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
  • Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black 60.09 CFM CPU Cooler
  • Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

Mmm, don't you think you need more raw power than max 1 core perf ? Then an old gen 5950x will make a wayyyy more powerful VM machine, and 1440p gaming is mostly GPU dependent unless you have a 4090 (then you may see CPU bottlenecks at 1440p) 🙂

With less than 1200EUR you can get that :

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I do not really feel I need a CPU that strong though. I like the cooler, thanks for that. I also need a new PSU, cause mine is 10 years old and definately not very good anymore. I am thinking 850W.
