Unless you do heavy, large-file ingestion, I don't see any point in going with a more expensive option of anything for the same or less capacity. Until Direct Storage becomes standard (read: required) for most software/games, I don't think you'll notice the difference, and your wallet will thank you.

I do copy big files every once in a while, maybe like once or twice a month so definitely not something I do daily but I do like good performance for that (but then again, my MX500 is fine), and I also do editing sometimes. In the future the use might actually be more intensive, depending on my study in a little over a year. I'm planning on keeping the drive for as long as possible, so I'm actually thinking about going for the SN770. Also using it for gaming, but I don't think that will really matter since it doesn't seem like any devs are planning on using DS. What do you think for my use case?

My favorite way to shop for SSDs is to use PCpartpicker. Adjust the size of the drive search parameters to exactly what you want/need, sort by lowest price first, then pick the first one that has a DRAM cache.

I did that on Tweakers instead. Has the same filters and stuff, but it has way more stores for comparing prices where I live.

Edit: Just found the SN770 for 75 on WD their own site, I think it's worth €5 extra over the cheap ones so I'm definitely doing that.

I've been planning on upgrading my storage for some time now since my 500GB SSD is too small and my HDD is slow af, and waited for black friday deals, and now there's some nice stuff on sale. The cheaper 1TB drives start at €65 incl shipping, but I can get an SN770 for €80, which seems like a decent deal.

My question is: will there be any benefit of getting this drive over the cheaper ones, especially considering I have a PCIe 3.0 system (might transfer it to a different system in a few years)? Any other suggestions?

If you want to check other options, please check this page (most don't include shipping in the price so click on the item for it to show total cost). My budget is €80 but if it's really worth it I can do 90.
